Godstone sinkhole
The sinkhole in Godstone remains a significant incident and we continue to work closely with our partners to resolve the situation as quickly as possible. The response is being led by Tandridge District Council, with ongoing support from the Surrey Local Resilience Forum, which includes Surrey County Council.
Business open as usual
All businesses, except for one directly impacted by the sinkhole, are open for business as usual. Please support them.
Traffic and travel
The A25 in Godstone is closed in both directions. Drivers should follow the diversion route via A25 Oxted Road, A22 Godstone Bypass, and Eastbourne Road. Please visit Surrey County Council road works map for the diversion route.
The Metrobus 400, 409 and 410 services are on diversion as they cannot use Godstone High Street. Passengers are advised to catch their bus from the Godstone Green bus stop (near the Needle's Bank public toilets) instead. The 410 service will also be unable to serve the Crowhurst Mead or Church Lane bus stops on the A25 Oxted Road.
Advice and information
We are providing advice and support about emergency accommodation to local residents who have been asked to leave their homes. Residents asked to evacuate their homes can call 01883 722000.
Water supply
SES Water has restored the water supply to the wider area. Affected homes near the sinkhole remain without water, power and gas services.
Council tax and businesses rates
We are putting plans in place to ensure impacted resident do not pay council tax while they are unable to return to their property. Affected residents and businesses may be able to get a reduction on council tax or business rates by contacting the valuation office.
Postal service
The Royal Mail is holding all mail for impacted households at the Customer Service Point (CSP) in the Redhill Delivery Office. None of the mail will be returned to sender. Mail can be collected from the CSP with ID until they return to their property.
