Playground refurbishment contracts awarded
The Council has awarded contracts to two playground equipment manufacturers, Kompan and Eibe Play, to refurbish four playgrounds and one Multi Use Games Area (MUGA) across the district. This exciting project aims to improve these key play areas with equipment that is more accessible, durable and designed to provide fun for all ages and abilities.
The playgrounds to be refurbished are:
- Hunters Chase Playground, Godstone
- Talbot Road Recreation Ground Playground and MUGA, Lingfield
- Timber Hill Playground, Caterham
- Whyteleafe Recreation Ground Playground.
Refurbishment work will take place between 5 January 2026 to 31 March 2026, subject to ground conditions and weather permitting.
Kompan and Eibe are committed to involving the local community in the process. As part of the refurbishment projects, they have engaged with residents to ensure local needs are being met and will host reopening events once the new play areas are ready for the community.
Nicci Aplin, Area Sales Manager, Kompan, said: “Kompan is delighted to have been selected to support the Council in delivering high quality, inclusive and long lasting play spaces for the district, all made from fully recycled materials. We look forward to working with the community and to seeing the refurbished playgrounds enjoyed by families across the area.”
Stuart Evans, Play Consultant, Eibe Play, said: “Inclusivity is hugely important when designing a new play area and is at the heart of what Eibe Play do. The new play area at Timber Hill includes inclusive play features and also allows easy access for both wheelchair users and prams. This ensures the play area can be used by children of all ages and abilities, all year round.”
Councillor Deb Shiner, Chair of Community Services, said: “It’s great to be working with Kompan and Eibe for this next phase of our playground refurbishment programme. We’re excited to see the new and modern changes the refurbishment will bring to the play areas and look forward to seeing even more children and families enjoying the community space.”
Later in the year, the Council plans to refurbish an additional four playgrounds and two skate parks. Regular updates will be published on the Council’s website.
