Organisations supporting Ukrainian guests in the district

This is a list of local organisations and groups who are able to offer support to Ukrainians. 

The Ukrainian Support Helpline, set up by Barnardo's, is available to anyone fleeing the conflict in Ukraine. The free helpline number is 0800 148 8586. The helpline is open Monday to Friday from 10am to 8pm and on Saturday from 10am to 3pm. There are English, Ukrainian and Russian speakers, to offer support to children and families arriving in the UK from Ukraine.

Charities such as the Royal National Institute of Blind People and Guide Dogs is offering free advice, support and assistance to Ukrainians in the UK. Please call the sight loss advice helpline on 0303 123 9999 from 8am to 8pm on weekdays and 9am to 1pm on Saturdays. An interpretation service is also available.

Oxted and Warlingham Ukraine Support group

  • Free English lessons in Oxted every Thursday evening, 7pm until 9pm. English language tuition for beginners, intermediate/advanced levels in a fun and very friendly atmosphere. The classes are in a local school and there are childcare facilities too. 

    There is a free bus that calls at local villages.

STEP Ukraine

12 week intensive online English language and employment course.

The programme is free for anyone who is 18 and over and includes:​​​​​

  • An intensive 10 weeks of 2.5 hours daily English classes by British Council, with options to take the lessons morning, afternoon, or evening.
     
  • 12 weeks of weekly employment support with a dedicated employment advisor to support with: CV writing, job applications, interview prep, support with job search, and specialist workshops.
     
  • All classes are remote, and teacher led. They are streamed so you will be with classmates at a similar level.
