Have your say
We are reviewing how parish councils in Caterham work effectively to make sure they reflect the identity and needs of the community and whether any changes are required.
We are asking for your views on a draft proposal to merge Caterham on the Hill Parish Council and Caterham Valley Parish Council into one single parish covering the whole of Caterham.
What do parish councils do?
Currently, these parish councils run local projects and services, for example:
- Caterham on the Hill parish council manages Hillcroft Corner and organises the cedar tree lights switch-on and a family fun day.
- Caterham Valley organises the June picnic in the park at Timber Hill and the Christmas market and lights switch on in Croydon Road.
This consultation is separate from the government’s consultation on reorganising local government in Surrey, which proposes replacing the current county and district and borough councils with two or three unitary authorities.
We want to know what you think before any decisions are made
Before any recommendations are finalised, we are seeking your feedback on these proposals. Some of the key questions include:
- Do you agree with merging the two Parish Councils?
- Do you think the merged parish should be divided into wards?
- Do you think the current number of councillors is appropriate?
What happens next?
Your responses will help shape recommendations for possible changes. A second phase of consultation is planned for later this year, giving you another opportunity to comment before any final decisions are made.
