Garages

We have garages in the district which you can rent.

The Garage Management Policy outlines our approach to the letting and management of garages.

Here we explain how you can:

  • Apply for a garage.
  • Pay your garage rent.
  • Request a garage repair.

The weekly rent is £15.61 plus VAT (£3.12) which is £18.73 per week.

If you are a council tenant in the district VAT is not charged.

The fee, plus any other charges such as sewage, is paid monthly in advance by Direct Debit.

Direct Debit is the cheapest and easiest way to pay garage rent.

Please complete and print our Direct Debit form and give it to our Customer Services team in the Council Offices at 8 Station Road East, Oxted RH8 0BQ.

You can report a garage repair by completing our online form.

Please identify your repair as accurately as you can, giving us the exact location and any other details using the notes section, this will make sure we send the best person to complete the repair. IMPORTANT: Do not use this form if you require an emergency repair.

All appointments are made by prior arrangement

Please, ask to see identification before letting anyone into your property or garage or before you hand over any keys. If you have any doubts about the identity of the person, please call the council on 01883 722000.

Emergency Repairs

If your repair is an emergency, please phone us immediately on 01883 722000. If you have a gas leak, please report it immediately to National Grid on 0800 111 999.

To end your garage licence you must give one weeks notice.

If you would like to stop using your garage and hand it back to us, please can you:

  • Complete and submit the Ending your garage licence form
  • Remove all items from the garage and leave it in a clean condition so it can be easily rented again. If we need to clear any unwanted items we will charge you for the cost of removing and disposing of your waste.
  • Put your keys into an envelope with the garage address on it and hand them into Customer Services at the Council Offices in Oxted.

Should we need to clear any unwanted items the cost will be recharged to the vacating tenant.

Any lost keys are subject to £149.73 which will be recharged to your garage account. If you have lost your keys, you should advise us, we can then arrange a gain entry and lock change to be carried out in the garage.

Payments

We will cancel your direct debit from the date your keys are returned to us. However, we would advise you to cancel your direct debit/standing order with your bank in case your next payment is due for collection.

Any credit on your account will be refunded back to you within 28 days.

If you can't pay your garage rent, please contact us on 01883 722000.

We have a duty to recover all rent owed to us and are required to maintain overall levels of outstanding rent.

If we have to repossess your garage, we will ask the licensee to remove the contents.

Should we have to clear the garage; the arrears, cost of clearance, and the cost of a lock change (if required) will be charged to the former licensee.
