Neighbourhood planning

The Localism Act enables communities to produce their own formal plans for a defined area (the neighbourhood area) under the Neighbourhood Planning (General) Regulations 2012. In this district only parish councils can produce Neighbourhood Plans.

Neighbourhood plans are prepared by the community and set out local planning policies in relation to that area. They must be in line with national and local planning policy. They must be independently examined and voted on in a local referendum to decide if they should be formally adopted.

Neighbourhood plans, once adopted, become part of the development plan. They are then used to determine planning applications.

Emerging Neighbourhood Plans

Please note parishes can have both adopted and emerging Neighbourhood Plans.

Parishes are only listed on this page once they have designated their Neighbourhood Plan Area.
